Skills For Change Celebrates The Outstanding Achievements Of Immigrants With 26th Annual Pioneers For Change Fundraiser
Toronto, May 10th, 2018 - Skills for Change is pleased to announce the 2018 Pioneers for Change awards gala, the 26th annual fundraiser; this year, in support of program development for marginalized and newcomer youth across the GTA and Southwestern Ontario. The event will be held on Wednesday, June 20th at St. James Cathedral Centre in downtown Toronto.
For twenty-six years, Skills for Change has honoured exemplary members from the GTA community, who have not only found success as newcomers, but who have helped shape the Canadian identity and continue to make it a better place to live.
Pioneers for Change celebrates diversity and achievement in six categories including arts, social impact, leadership, youth, and entrepreneurship. Some of the past award recipients include TIFF Artistic Director Cameron Bailey, restaurateur and television personality Roger Mooking, award-winning author Shyam Selvadurai and Geeth Moorthy, the founder of the South Asian Autism Awareness Centre.
This year’s list of winners are local and influential immigrants who continue to make a positive impact. Recipients include author and social rights activist B. Denham Jolly, arts practitioner Paola Gomez, and Aisho Addo, the CEO behind DriveHER, the ride-sharing service for women by women. Also receiving awards this year are University of Toronto psychiatry professor Dr. Kwame Mckenzie, entrepreneur Svetlana Ratnikova, and Huda Idress, the CEO of Dot Health.
